Whale watching from Lahaina
The ʻAuʻau Channel between Lahaina, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi is shallow, warm and sheltered, which is exactly what mother humpbacks look for. In peak season it is common to see several groups of whales on a single two-hour trip, and boats often find whales within minutes of leaving.
Lahaina has been rebuilding since the 2023 wildfire, and some departures that used to leave from Lahaina Harbor now leave from Mala Boat Ramp or other nearby spots. Your confirmation email will always say exactly where to meet, so check it the day before.
Tours from the Lahaina side are a short drive from Kāʻanapali, Nāpili and Kapalua, so they are the easiest choice if you are staying in West Maui.
