Whale watching from Kāʻanapali
Kāʻanapali is the only place on Maui where big catamarans pull right up to a resort beach to pick you up. You walk down the sand, wade a few steps and climb aboard, with no drive to a harbor and no parking to find.
The water off Kāʻanapali looks straight across to Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi, and whales are often visible from the beach itself in January and February. Tours head out into the channel where humpbacks gather.
Because you board from the beach, expect to get your feet and legs wet, and leave anything you do not want splashed in a dry bag.
Getting there
- Beach boarding. You climb aboard from the beach, so expect wet feet and legs. Not ideal for guests with limited mobility.
- Parking. Whalers Village and the nearby resorts have paid parking. Some operators validate.
- Check-in. Most check-in kiosks are along the beach walk near Whalers Village.
